Should Daleks Be Allowed to live on Earth?

Dear parents/carers,
Year 5 will be writing discussions in literacy for the next 3 weeks.
Our first discussion is about whether or not you believe Daleks should be allowed to live on Earth.
Could you please help us by reading our discussion text and leaving a comment stating your opinion on the subject. This will help us write a discussion text next week using your opinions as evidence!
Many Thanks,
Miss Heeley
Should Daleks Be Allowed to live on Earth?
Since the arrival of the Daleks on this planet, there has been much discussion about whether or not they should be allowed to live on Earth. This raging controversy is of vital importance because the Dalek’s have asked the world’s parliament if they can stay?
The Doctor, the famous Time Lord, has argued that the Daleks might be allowed to stay because they can be used as a force for good. The Doctor has suggested that by changing the Dalek’s basic DNA, a new breed could be created. There are several reasons why this might be beneficial. First, they would act as ideal defenders in any intergalactic battle. Furthermore, the Daleks are tireless workers and totally fearless. This means that they might be prepared to work in areas that are dangerous. Moreover, The Doctor argues that their skill in technology would help the earth considerably.
On the other hand, the large majority of people on planet Earth do not believe that the Daleks should be allowed to stay. First of all, they point to the fact that when the Daleks have previously visited, they have attempted to exterminate all other life forms. Furthermore, they add that these cyborgs from the planet Skaro have been waging war around the galaxy. Additionally, the daleks are known to have no compassion and feel only hate.
Having considered the arguments from both sides, we believe that the Daleks should not be allowed to stay on Earth, as the risk is too great. While the Doctor is usually right and has saved the galaxy on many occasions, we have concluded that perhaps he has been influenced in some way by these evil creatures!

Explorers Workshop

To finish our explorers topic last term, year 5 and 6 joined forces as part of a workshop to build models of the Matthew (the ship sailed by John Cabot and his crew during his explorations to Newfoundland, Canada) .

Once we have decorated our finished designs, the boats will be raced as part of Bristol's Harbourside festival in July. Most of the class were very excited by this so we will keep you updated nearer the time and hope to see a few of you down there.

Our Pizza Express Trip

We put our new cooking skills to the test when we visited Pizza Express and made our own Margarita pizzas from scratch. We had a great time making them and an even better time eating them!

Maths Week 2017
